Persuasive Speech Video Games - 1051 Words

To listen to my dad, one would think that video games were created by Satan himself. He has told me over and over again that he does not understand how I can concentrate that long on NBA 2K, Grand Theft Auto, or some other XBOX One game. And according to my mom, I could have done a million other things just last night besides play my video games. In fact, both my parents have constantly told me that they will let me take my car with me when I graduate from high school and go off to college but not my XBOX One. They think I’m addicted to video games. Imagine that! I am sure that many researchers have studied why those of us who consider ourselves â€Å"gamers† would spend countless hours playing video games and I would probably make a fine†¦show more content†¦Either way, I get to think, plan, and strategize. In the midst of the multi-faceted games with face paced images, flashing objects, split decisions, I often emerge a winner. I thought basketball was my most competitive arena. Nope! Give me any XBOX One game and I will strategize and play it until I am a winner. Overwhelming feelings of accomplishment, pride, and the need to go to the level come over me when I win. By making sure the next level is always more challenging than the previous one, I am sure game designers understand those feelings and keep me wanting more wins. There are those people in this world that would have me believe that â€Å"Winning isn’t everything.† I beg to differ. Winning is not only everything, but it also drives me to want to continue to win. Does this mean that I am unable to accept failure or that I am unrealistic to the fact that losses are an imminent part of life? No, I expect losses. But it is the about the information I gather from losing that helps me strategize to win. It is the me mories of how things happened during a loss that steer me around traps, situations that could cost me points or a virtual life, or potential threats. Most importantly, the quick, correct decisions that result in a win make winning even more exciting. Game mode makes me very aggressive.
